From summer 2024, the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences will be offering the “Dual Block Study Program in Textile and Clothing Technology” in cooperation with the Textile Academy. With this new offer, we want to increase the attractiveness of the dual study program and thus attract young talent to the industrial-technical sector.
In contrast to the dual study program, the attendance times in the dual block study program at the university and at the textile academy are divided into longer blocks. The dual block course in textile and clothing technology therefore offers an ideal solution for companies throughout Germany.

You first apply to a textile or clothing company of your choice. You can also send an unsolicited application to the company. You will clarify the general conditions together. You then enrol for the “B.Sc. Textile and Clothing Technology” course with the focus of your choice at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences.
Both. You will receive a training contract from your company, in which the study part is also regulated. You are an apprentice until you successfully pass the examination at the IHK. When you enrol at the Hochschule Niederrhein in your second year, you will be a student until you successfully pass the examination.
Students on the dual block course attend the normal full-time course for B.Sc. in Textile and Clothing Technology at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. Here you will find more information and the opportunity to enrol.

As a student, you have a variety of accommodation options in Mönchengladbach.
In Mönchengladbach there are several student residences, many shared apartments and affordable studio apartments. As you will only be living in Mönchengladbach for a limited period of time, a sublet in a shared flat or apartment might be something for you. You are sure to find the right one for you via apartment share search portals or apartment search portals.
“I find the university in Mönchengladbach really cozy. Everything is centrally located in one place and not as spread out as at other universities. There’s generally a very informal atmosphere here and you make friends straight away. You go to the canteen for lunch and get your coffee at Kaffee Hoffmanns. There are lots of opportunities to get socially involved here, e.g. with Fairquer or the student council. On Wednesday evenings, we all go to Mezcalitos. Everything in the bar is always half price for students. So you can really meet everyone here! At the weekend we’re often out and about in Cologne or Düsseldorf – the big cities are only 30-50 minutes away by train.” Simone (24) – 4th semester Textile and Clothing Technology.

Since you are going to university, you are not required to attend vocational school. However, you still have to take an intermediate examination and a final examination at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce to complete your training.
To ensure that you are well prepared for the intermediate and final exams at the IHK, the Textilakademie NRW offers exam preparation courses that have been specially developed for dual students. The courses are published on the Textilakademie website. As a rule, the course fees are covered by your company.
Don’t want to miss out on registering for the exam preparation courses? Then sign up for the Newsletter of the Textilakademie NRW and you will receive information about new seminars and exam preparation courses.
The intermediate and final examinations for production mechanics and textile and fashion tailors are usually held in May.
